Who can message you

Every listing has a setting for who can start a conversation. Most sellers keep it open. If you get enquiries that go nowhere, ask buyers to share a short profile before their first message.

The three levels

A private listing can also ask for a buyer profile: the buyer then shares it with their access request, so you see who is asking before you approve.

When you choose

  • The first time you open an enquiry a buyer sent you, we ask once which you prefer. Your answer applies to all your live listings.
  • Change it for any listing at any time under Who can message you on My Listings.

What you see

  • When a buyer with a profile messages you, their profile appears at the top of the conversation: budget, timeline, who they are and an optional website.
  • It is the profile as it was when they first got in touch, so it does not change under you.
  • Buyers without a complete profile are asked to fill it in before they can send a first message. They only do it once.

Troubleshooting

Will asking for a profile cost me enquiries?

Some, yes. Buyers who would only send a one-line message often won't fill in a profile. That is usually the point, but if you want reach, keep it open.

Do existing conversations change?

No. The setting only applies to new conversations and new access requests.
